Course Description

This course consists of 8 hours of online content plus 14 hours of live lecture and practical exercises over a 2-day period.

Who can attend:

Only licensed clinicians with dry needling in their scope of practice may attend. There are exceptions for PT students when approved by their faculty.

Students receive a student certificate that does not allow them to dry needle. When the student graduates, they may contact IAOM-US for a clinician certificate.

Objectives and Goals

Participants, upon completion of this course can expect to:

  • Understand and integrate myofascial concepts into the assessment and diagnosis of musculo-skeletal disorders
  • Understand neurophysiology of both Myofascial pain and mechanisms for needle de- activation of TrPs having reviewed current research in the field
  • Have improved skill and competency in assessing and locating MTrPs and an awareness of common referral patterns
  • Develop skill and competence in using dry needling for deactivation of MTrPs
  • Be able to set up a clean field needling station and perform safe needling techniques
  • Integrate best clinical practice with research evidence when introducing this technique into their clinical setting
  • Attain skills of dry needling for: posterior shoulder and cervical musculature, buttock and thigh muscles, low back, quadratus lumborum and iliopsoas muscles
  • Be aware of relationships of vessels, nerves and organs in relation to areas needled
  • Develop the skills to integrate the techniques learned in the course into the rehabilitation concept of their core discipline
