Upper Quarter Joint Mobilization for the Pediatric Patient with A Neuromusculoskeletal Diagnosis – Anchorage AK – Mar 2025
Course Description
16.75 Contact Hours/ 1.67 CEUs
The purpose of this course is to educate pediatric physical therapists (PTs) and occupational therapists (OTs) on the decision process and techniques needed to incorporate upper-quarter joint mobilizations into their multimodal treatment plans to achieve functional goals. The course incorporates a case study approach to guide therapists through the Pediatric Utilization of Manual Therapy (PUMT) Decision Tool. The course is designed to be region-specific, aligning with anatomical considerations, and tailored to address corresponding functional limitations. Hands-on laboratory sessions will be strategically integrated throughout the curriculum to promote mastery of essential skills.
The online component is segmented into lecture modules plus module assessments to gauge your understanding (must meet a minimum score prior to moving to the next module). You are able to start and stop your viewing time as needed.
The LIVE portion of this course offers live lecture and extensive hands-on lab demonstrating and modeling techniques. PowerPoint presentations are used and participants receive a manual with all course materials printed.
The hands-on experience at the two-day live courses emphasizes teaching and practicing clinical examination, differential diagnosis, management development, and orthopedic manual therapy. This experience focuses on techniques and problem solving, as well as clinical analysis, synthesis and application via case studies.
This course is valuable because it gives developmental pediatric PTs and OTs additional tools that they may add to their existing multimodal treatment strategies. Research has supported joint mobilizations as valuable in the treatment of pain, joint mobility, strength, and motor control. Pediatric PTs and OTs address each of these impairments and thus would benefit from this additional skill set.
Target Audience: PT, OT
