Part I of a virtual lecture series designed to expand on the clinicians working knowledge of the evaluation of primary pain mechanisms. Understanding pain neuroscience and being able to recognize the primary pain mechanism will assist a clinician with effective and efficient evaluation and management. More specifically we want a clinician to recognize that persistent pain is very different from acute pain.

 Target group: PT, PTA. AT, OT

Objectives and Goals

At the conclusion of this knowledge-based activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the difference between primary nociceptive, neuropathic and nocioplastic pain.
  2. Recognize that persistent pain is common, complex and challenging to both evaluate and treat.
  3. Identify the need to adopt a biopsychosocial model of care in the evaluation of patients with persistent pain.
  4. Indicating at least 1 Clinical Sensory Testing with patients with persistent pain
