Cervical Angina (Pseudoangina Pectoris) — Quick Facts
Definition: Also known as pseudoangina pectoris, cervical angina is non-cardiac chest pain that originates from cervical spine pathology rather than the heart.
Prevalence:
- Occurs in approximately 1.4% of patients with a history of cervical spine surgery.
- Seen in about 5% of patients with C7 radiculopathy.
Anatomical Variability:
- Atypical presentations can occur due to anatomical variations, such as a prefixed brachial plexus.
- For example, a left C6–C7 disc herniation may cause radicular symptoms in the classic T1 dermatomal distribution, despite the lesion being at a higher level.
