About IAOM-US
The International Academy of Orthopedic Medicine – US has been the standard-bearer for orthopedic manual physical therapy education in America since 1993.
Our Legacy
Dr. James Cyriax develops a systematic methodology for musculoskeletal examination using selective tissue testing — the clinical backbone of what would become IAOM.
Dr. Cyriax and PT Dos Winkel establish the International Association of Academies of Orthopedic Medicine in Holland, growing into one of Europe's largest CE associations for orthopedic manual therapy.
Valerie Phelps founds the American Academy of Orthopedic Medicine to bring the IAAOM methodology to U.S. physicians and physical therapists. Renamed IAOM-US in 1999.
Affiliated with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and ABPTRFE-accredited residency, IAOM-US partners with clinics, hospitals, and PT programs to transform entire clinical teams — not just individuals.
Every curriculum element is grounded in peer-reviewed research and the internationally validated Kaltenborn-Evjenth methodology.
We don't teach to the minimum — we train clinicians to become the most capable manual therapists in their field.
We treat every B2B engagement as a long-term institutional partnership — not a transaction.
IAOM is part of a global network of orthopedic manual therapy organizations operating in 30+ countries.
