Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between the Residency and Fellowship?

The Residency is a 12-month structured program ideal for recent graduates seeking board certification preparation. The Fellowship is for experienced PTs with 4,000+ clinical hours seeking advanced diagnostics credentials and AAOMPT Fellow status, with a flexible 11-36 month timeline and ScD degree option.

Can I complete the fellowship part-time?

Yes. While the intensive rotations require 2-week blocks at a mentor site, you can spread the distance learning clinical hours over 14-50 weeks. Total completion ranges from 11-36 months depending on your schedule.

Do I need to relocate for the fellowship?

You'll need to be on-site for the initial 75-hour intensive rotation (2 weeks). The remaining 240 hours can be conducted at your current clinical location with web-based mentor contact.

What happens after I complete the fellowship?

Upon completion, you're eligible for AAOMPT Fellow status and hold an advanced clinical specialist certification. You also earn a Doctor of Science (ScD) degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center if enrolled in that program.

Is the fellowship accredited?

Yes. The IAOM-US Fellowship is accredited through ACOMPTE (the Accreditation Council on Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy Education), which is the autonomous body established by AAOMPT to set standards and accredit these specialized fellowship programs. Graduating from an ACOMPTE-accredited program allows physical therapists to earn the prestigious FAAOMPT credential (Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists).
