UE Track Courses

Course Description

14.5 Contact Hours . 1.45 CEUs

This in-person seminar is designed for physical therapists and related professionals seeking mastery in the Differential Diagnosis and Musculoskeletal Management of TOS – CTJ conditions. Utilizing lectures and supervised laboratory sessions, participants engage in applied surface anatomy, advanced joint and soft tissue techniques, and systematic patient evaluation protocols. Emphasis is placed on integrating pathoanatomy, biomechanics, and evidence-based reasoning to optimize diagnosis and intervention strategies. Attendees will learn to formulate precise differential diagnoses, analyze the kinetic chain for causative and perpetuating factors, and design individualized treatment plans considering the interconnectedness of the thoracic outlet, shoulder girdle, and rib structures. Instruction covers targeted joint mobilization, soft tissue manipulation, and condition-specific exercise progressions, with adaptation for chronicity, irritability, and patient sensitization. The course equips learners to tackle complex patient scenarios, implementing manual therapy and exercise strategies in diverse clinical contexts.

Target Group: PT, PTA, OT, OTA, ATC
Educational Level: Intermediate
Prerequisites: Diagnosis and Management of TOS CTJ online lecture series is recommended (view before the course is recommended, but can be reviewed after the course as well) and is included in your registration for this course.

Objectives and Goals

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  1. Integrate advanced knowledge of pathoanatomy, physiology, and biomechanics to select evaluation and treatment techniques that maximize efficiency and clinical outcomes.
  2. Formulate precise differential diagnoses through comprehensive interpretation of patient history, physical examination, and relevant clinical tests.
  3. Design individualized treatment plans that incorporate accurate surface anatomy, tissue physiology, and regional interdependence of the thoracic outlet, shoulder girdle, and ribs.
  4. Analyze the kinetic chain and regional contributors to identify causal and perpetuating factors underlying complex patient presentations.
  5. Apply evidence-based clinical reasoning strategies to solve challenging case studies involving multi-system dysfunction and comorbidities.
  6. Integrate manual therapy techniques including targeted soft tissue mobilization and specific joint articulation to effectively manage thoracic outlet and double crush syndromes.
  7. Prescribe condition-specific exercise progressions for the thoracic spine and rib complex that reflect current evidence and consider psychosocial influences and patient preferences.
  8. Modify evaluation and intervention strategies according to chronicity, irritability, and the level of central or peripheral sensitization to optimize patient outcomes.
