Course Description
31 Education Hours: 5 hours of Online Self Study + 26 Hours hands-on experience
- Pre-course reading with a quiz
- Lectures by ODNS staff consisting of the following topics:
- Tensegrity and it’s significance to dry needling
- Applications of EStim with dry needling
- Adverse events
- Nutritional considerations
- TMJ Dysfunction
The online course includes exam questions for each lecture. This online portion must be completed within the month before the practical course, and will fulfill written examination requirements for dry needling courses.
As an experienced dry needling practitioner, this advanced course is a must to complete the use of dry needling with patients presenting with headaches, TMJ dysfunction, tennis and golfers elbow, carpal tunnel, CRPS, plantar fasciitis, tibial compartment syndrome, sprained ankle, hallux valgus, thoracic, abdominal, and pelvic pain.
The goal of this advanced dry needling course is to gain expertise in needling the more delicate and higher risk areas in the body. Techniques include dry needling of the face and anterior neck, arm and hand, lower leg and foot, thorax and abdominal wall AND the use of estim with needles.
It is a competency-based course, which will introduce more of the recent research and ends with a practical competency exam.
Who can attend:
ODNS Level I dry needling course is a pre-requisite for Level II. If you have completed a basic course with another company, we require you to first complete the Level I Online course and provide a copy of your basic course certificate before you attend Level II.
PTAs may not attend.

Objectives and Goals
- Integrate myofascial concepts into the assessment and diagnosis of at least 3 Musculoskeletal disorders.
- Apply neurophysiology of both Myofascial pain and mechanisms for needle de-activation of at least 5 TrPs having reviewed current research in the field.
- Demonstrate competence in using dry needling for deactivation of at least 5 MTrPs
- Develop skill and competence in using dry needling for deactivation of at least 5 MTrPs
- Be able to set up a clean field needling station and perform safe needling techniques.
- Integrate specific principles of dry needling set up a clean field needling station and perform safe needling techniques.
- Attain skills of dry needling for:
- Perform deep dry needling of at least 5 muscles of the upper extremity including the hand, leg and foot, face, anterior neck, abdomen, and thorax.
- Identify the relationships of vessels, nerves and organs in relation to areas needled.
- Integrate the DN techniques into the rehabilitation concept of their core discipline.
